Some News

I have a new job! I'm a research tech in a mico/immunololgy lab. It's cool and I'm liking it. The people I'm working with so far have been great. Of course it is a bit of a commute, but it's not all bad.

Baby is well, moving all around and kicking up a storm. I'm well on my way to being ginormous.

In the meantime, Dennis is still applying for jobs hither and yon. The newest applications have been in Manitoba and *gulp* Igloolik, Nunavut. I'm not sure what to hope for.

Jacob is well and continues to amuse and frustrate us greatly on a daily basis. Three has been an interesting age thus far. Lots more fun and lots more...defiant/challenging/hair pullingly frustrating. S'all good.

All by myyyyyyyseeeeeellllllllllffff.

So, the significant other is gone for 5 weeks and it is just the boy and I. However, we are currently in the company of a patricularly vicious duck toller, two disgruntled cats, several large high powered rifles, and a whole whack of unpredictable pregnancy hormones so don't get any ideas possible lurking undesirables : -p.

I hate it already. I don't like being alone. Granted, I'm not exactly alone, but when one is used to having another adult around, being suddenly single presents a host of interesting challenges. For example, I have not showered alone in the past week and not having someone to distract the child so I may pee in peace is a bit of a bugger. As fun as it is to listen to him sing 'Jera-whya was a bullfwog' at the top of his lungs, there are certian bathroom duties which do not require musical accompaniment, thankyouverymuch.

On the upside, I have many, many, many ripe tomatoes that I must deal with in some fashion and my first batch of pickled beets (from my very own bug eated, slug infested garden...aka'organic') turned out smashingly. I used my Grammie's recipe. It calls for 1 cup of sugar...or more, a half a handful of pickling spice...:-) and doesn't get any clearer than that, so I was somewhat worried. But they are very yummy. Oh, and just a PSA and an FYI, if one's child consumes 1/2 a jar of pickled beets, one should expect the contents of said child's diaper to be somewhat alarming for the next day or so. This is important to remember so that one does not inadvertantly start hyperventilating and suspect internal hemmhorage. In the 39 seconds it took me to remember the offender in the aforementioned child's diaper, I had quite the adrenaline rush going there.

Adios for now : )

Hallo.

So, yes, still a very very bad blogger. I've been pretty miserable, but not super duper crazy on IV fluids miserable. Just constantly nauseous. I'm on double the dose of the drugs I was on last time and 4 gravol a day in addition. It doesn't seem to be getting any worse, which is a blessing. I'm still having good days and bad days, but my bad days aren't as bad as they were 3 weeks ago.

My baby is 3 years old now. Or 'I free, Mama' as he puts it. It's pretty unbelievable. Wasn't he just born last year or something?

I've finished up at the university for the most part. I've still got some part time contract stuff, but that's it. Dennis has a 5 week contract to do some bird banding, which is good. So, I'll probably have to start the job hunt soonish.

So that's all the boringness I can muster for now. I shall blog more later, I promise :).

MIA again.

I've been a bad blogger. You'll have to cut me some slack tho because.........

My period is almost 5 weeks late and I'm sick as a dog. So that makes me almost 9 weeks pregnant :). Which is a 90% blessing and only 10% curse. We've only told close family and friends at this point, so Mum's the word, right? :)

With my last pregnancy, I had hyperemesis gravidarum and it looks like this one is going to be the same. I started taking my medication much earlier this time around tho, and I'm in much better shape than I was at this point last time. I'm not puking 15-20 times a day now. I've graduated to just a few times a week. With Jacob, the nausea was pretty constant until my 6th month, so I'm still wickedly nauseaous all the time, so I'm not expecting much relief until then. HALLELUJAH for drugs tho! I'm not a fan of taking drugs while pregnant, but the alternative for me would be IV fluids and total parentenal (sp?) nutrition (TPN) thru a PICC line for many many months. Not a charming 'alternative', so I'll stick with the druggage. The last baby came out okay with 'em :).

So, summer is finally in full swing in these parts. We're getting temperatures between 26 and 32 degrees in the last little bit. I also am very thankful for air conditioning.

Dat bug not vewy nice, Mama!

Jacob got stung by a wasp this morning :-(. He was not a happy camper. I think his feelings were more than a little hurt. He kept saying 'I not hurting da bug mama' and 'Dat bug not vewy nice' in between sobs. Broke my heart.

Dennis and I watched 'Boys Don't Cry' last night on Bravo. Let me just say that I could have lived my whole life happy without every having seen that movie. the first 3/4 weren't bad but the ending was violent and brutal and horrible. I had terrible nightmares last night and didn't sleep well at all. So now I'm tired and cranky.

Not that me being 'tired and cranky' makes today different from any other day :-) but today I actually have a good reason :-P.

Anyhow, it's a beautiful, warm, sunny day, so I'm sure I'll cheer up soon!

Name that tune

"I've got rice cooking in the microwave
Got a three day beard I don't plan to shave
and it's a goofy thing, but I just gotta say 'Hey, I'm a doin' alright'

I think I'll make me some homemade soup,
feeling pretty good and that's the truth
It's neither drink nor drug induced,
Lord, I'm just doin' alright"

Hint: The person who wrote it does indeed have a beard. :-)

"I like a Brother, Mama"

I've heard this sentence at least 252 times in the past 48 hours. 'I'm having a brother, you give me a brother Mama?'. I have no idea where he got this notion. We were at my parent's house over the weekend, so I think perhaps, Nana put a bug in his ear.

I'm not pregnant to my knowledge. It's strange. What do you say? 'I'll take that under advisement, son'? or 'We're working on it'?. I actually said that last one and now I get 'I want a brother, you working on it?'

:sigh:

It's a beautiful sunny day finally! YAY!

Work

So, I've just realized that if I don't want to pay another continuing fee, I have to have my thesis ready to defend by August 18th. Which means it needs to be done by at *least* August 10th. :sigh: This is going to be hellacious. Pray for me.

5:00 am

How can a child who is put to bed at 8 pm and falls asleep at 10:30 pm, concievably wake at 5 am and function? Seriously? How is this humanly possible? This doesn't happen very often, but I am so very glad that I am at work today and he is at daycare. I feel sorry for the daycare ladies tho. Someone remind me why I want another one. Anybody. Please.

Monday was hubby's birthday. I rather outdid myself in that dept if I do say so myself. I got up early and fixed him breakfast in bed, made him a lovely birthday supper of curried chicken and rice as per his request, Jacob and I baked him a cake from scratch and he had a very enjoyable evening. Oh, he got presents too :-).

So, as I sit here bleery eyed, I can't think of anything much else to write. Oh, this morning, Dennis and Jacob were somewhat at odds as Jacob was getting dressed. Jacob was saying that he didn't want to go to daycare and Dennis responded once with 'Well, I really don't care'. I pulled him aside to tell him that I felt that was innappropriate and said 'That's really enough of that', but guess who heard? Now our almost 3 year old's favourite phrase seems to be 'That's enuf ob dat'. :sigh: Why does everything come back to bite me?

Ta ta :)

SUN!!

It's sunny! It's warm! I'm wearing shorts! My 4 year anniversary is tomorrow! I got paid last night! YAY! :)

I'm stuck in my windowless office til 4:30, but that's ok. Is it just me, or does my nose look REALLY big in that new picture of me?

I have almost 6 pages of methods typed up. Yay me!

Four years ago tomorrow:

Insertsomethinginterestinghere

First and foremost, no, I'm not pregnant yet as far as I know. Dennis has already said that he'd feel cheated if we concieved on the first try. I'm not going to elaborate on that statement at all and that's all I have to say about that :-).

In other news, it looks like we may need to start building an ark. Over 150mm of rain has fallen in the past week and a half and we're expected to get at least another 90 if the weather people are to be trusted. Jacob is very excited as he's gotten to wear his cool new rain coat and Winnie the Pooh wellies 4 or 5 times this week to go puddle jumping. I love that kid :-). Ever the optomist.

Anyhow, I'm still plugging away at the thesis. Who wants to finish my materials and methods section for me? Huh? It's just about as exciting and fun as root canal surgery. No takers? Losahs.

It's out!

I am, as of this moment, IUD free. Whoopee :-). I'm sure you were all waiting with bated breath. Don't try to deny it.

It really wasn't that bad.

Oh, and some more too much info: apparently, my cervical mucus is 'ovulatory'. Grroooooowwwl.

Sick. Ugh. And other stuff

My mother and I went to Toronto this weekend past to visit my brother. It was a little surprise birthday present for me (my birthday isn't until July). I'd never been, so it was cool to see the big city and to get away. We went to Niagra Falls, saw some relatives, ate LOTS of yummy Thai food and generally had a good time.

However, I have returned with a yucky, sniffling, hacking, snurgely, drippy, leaky cold. Gwoss (as Jacob would say). And because misery loves company, the rest of my little family has it as well. I guess you can't have your cake and eat it too, eh?

On a happy? interesting?...we'll go with 'interesting' note, attempt numero deux to have my IUD removed is tomorrow. If this attempt fails perhaps I'll just have to accept that it just likes me and has decided to live in me forever. I say this as the other removal options sound generally unpleasant, but we'll see.

Take care, y'all :)

The woman with the incredible vanishing....

IUD. Aaaaaaaaaaaa! Yes, I went to the Doc today to have it removed and she couldn't find it. Somewhat disconcerting, no?

All is not lost, both literally and figuratively. She's going to schedule me for an ultrsound and have another look in a few weeks in the interim. I'm fairly certain it's still there as I can feel the strings. They just seem to be higher up that usual. But of course, one must maximize every opportunity on can to have strange cold instruments shoved inside of one's nether regions. What fun.

You're all jealous, aren't you? Thought so.

Out of the ashes...

Well, I survived. Winter term is over and I am still alive. I can't quite believe it and I'm not entirely sure what to do with myself now that I'm not running around like the proverrbial chicken with its head cut off. Have you ever heard that old saying 'Now that the rush is over, I'm going to have a nervous break down. I've worked for it, I've earned it, and NO ONE is going to deprive me of it'? Well, that would be me.

A ha ha ha ha (that would be the maniacal laughter of a woman on the brink, just so you know).

So, what shall I tell you? This terms has left little time for me. 'Me' is a concept that I've had to forgo to an extent. I've been 'Instructor', 'Mama' and 'Wife', but very seldom 'me' (altho, I did get a much needed chunk of 'me' whilst performing in 'Bodies without Borders' so I can't complain entirely :)). This is my first official act in rectifying that situation. A small step, but a significant step. I've also started reading all of the blogs I used to enjoy again.

But, with the return of 'me' comes the responsibility of my thesis. I can't ignore it any longer. I need to finish it or I think I'll lose it entirely.

So, I have my work cut out for me, but I love a challenge.

So, with that, I'm off to see how you all have been doing. I'm sorry I've been so remiss in my blogging duties. I promise to try valiantly to do better!!!

p.s. for a bit of fun, check out this site and get your very own pirate name. Arr. Hence forth I shall be known as 'Dirty Jenny Bonny'.

Another 'I'm alive, I swear!'

So, busy doesn't even begin to describe what this term has been like. My office looks like a cyclone struck it! So does my house, but I blame my husband for that. Um, dishes don't wash themselves and they breed, honey.

A brief update: Jacob passed his hearing and speech evaluation with flying colours. He's rapidly catching up in that dept and is coming out with new and more hilariousness everry day. Last week, when he and Dennis came to pick me up at work, he had orange marker all over his head. I asked what had happened and he said 'Bump head. Nick did it. Sammy did it. Need bum peam, Mama'. So, not only does the kid feel that bum cream is the solution to all that ails us, he's blaming the kids from daycare for a non-existant bump when he hadn't seen them for 2 days. Does this mean we're in trouble? People told me I'd look back on the days when he was uncommunicative and be nostalgic :). But seriously, it's too cool that I can now carry on a reasonable converstation with my 2 year old. He's such a funny little guy and I'm so in love with him right now.

I don't have much else to talk about. There's ton's to complain about :) but I don't think it would be right to bitch about my students publically. So, give me a call and I'll tell you allllllllllll about it :). Most of them are just fantastic tho, so don't get the wrong idea, but there's one or three I'd happily toss out a window into a snow bank. For the most part, I'm really enjoying them all. They're mostly really keen and keep me on my toes with intelligent questions. I'm up to my armpits in ungraded stuff tho, so I must fly.

Is it friday already?

My first week of labs for the new semester are OVAH! Unfortunately, next week brings double the work so I intend to have a verrrrrrrrrry relaxing weekend!

I don't really have much to talk about. Things have been a bit boring of late. We have lots of snow! Last night, Dennis asked me to park at the top of the driveway so that he could shovel before I packed down the snow with the tires. Ok, fine, no prob. Some where between the car and the front door, the ONLY key we have to my brother's car managed to fall off the key chain and is now buried somewhere in the white stuff. Grand. So the car's still at the top of the driveway. Miraculously I remembered to get my purse out of it before locking it up last night, so thank God for small favours.

Jacob is enjoying the snow enourmously. It's been bitterly cold, so we han't had him out much in it, but yesterday during the storm was warmer so he 'helped' shovel. Our neighbour stopped by to say hello and asked him what he was doing. His reply was 'eat white snow'. Good, contientious parents that we are, we have already taught him the only white snow is appropriate for eating whereas brown and yellow snow are forbidden. We're Canadian, eh? Ya gotta learn this stuff! :)

Toodle oo!

Hallelujah by and by...

I am alive! I promise :)

The holidays are behind us which is both sad and a relief. We're a bit off kilter, but none the worse for the wear. Jacob is a bit annoyed with us because we keep missing church. We missed the Christmas eve service, or rather, we didn't actually go to the Christmas eve service because it was at 11pm and so, we didn't get a bulletin. Hence, we were not privy to the weird and whacky Holiday schedule so we kept showing up either in the middle of the service or at the end. This happened a whopping 3 times. You'da thunk that we would have been smart enough to sneak in and grab a bulletin, right? Well, no, not that smart. So, three times we were forced to pack up an unwilling, upset toddler back into the car. I'm quite certian that God's punishment was having to listen to my toddler cry 'Church, Church Mama! In church! Pweade?' pitifully over and over.

This is gunna be such a wicked term for me. My workload will triple. I KID YOU NOT! TRIPLE!!! If only my pay would triple as well *sigh*. So, if I seen to be MIA, more often than not, that'll be why.

As I don't have much else to talk about or report, I'll end with a corny joke. I don't think I've posted this one before:

Ahem: So, Snail was tired of being slow, so he decided to invest in a car. He had it painted red with a big yellow 'S' (for snail) on the side. His friends were in awe! Whenever they saw him, they'd all exclaim 'Look at the 'S' car go!'

Wa wa wa wa waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaanh.
